Adventure Engine is a shared story you play with friends. One person hosts, everyone else joins for free. The Narrator builds the world, plays every character in it, and asks you what you do next. This walkthrough takes you from a blank page to your first roll of the dice.
1. Start a new adventure
From the hearth (your home screen once you are signed in), choose “New adventure.” You can describe your own adventure in a sentence or two and let the Narrator build the world around it, or pick one of the four ready-made worlds if you would rather start with something shaped.
2. Choose a world
The four ready worlds are Hollowmere, Vex Throne, Brassholt, and Auralay. Each has its own tone and its own way that magic works — see “The worlds” for a primer on each. Whatever you pick, the world is yours to change once play begins.
3. Set the table
Give your tale a name and, if you like, adjust the tonal sliders — how strict the rules are, how deadly the world is, how playful the tone. You can leave the defaults; they are tuned per world. You can also change these live, mid-session, from the table menu.
Your table gets a room code. Share it with your friends so they can join.
4. Begin the adventure
When everyone is in, press “Begin adventure.” This is what starts the story — until you press it, no turns are spent. The Narrator writes the opening scene, addresses your characters by name, and hands you the first decision.
5. Take turns
A turn is one reply from the Narrator. When the story pauses on a decision, you get a few suggested choices as tappable pills, plus a “Something else” option so you are never boxed in — type whatever your character actually does. “Speak” sends what your character does or says to the Narrator. “Ask” is for checking something you have already been told (“what’s my Vitality?”) and is always free.
6. Roll the dice
When the outcome of an action is uncertain, the Narrator asks for a roll. Tap the dice, and the result is read into the story. Rolling a natural 20 is a Triumph and a natural 1 is a Ruin, whatever your bonus. You can open the dice any time just to feel them roll — those practice rolls do not count and are not part of the story.
7. End a session and save
You do not have to finish in one sitting. From the table menu, “End for today & save” closes the session and banks the tale. When you come back, you resume from where you left off. Any turns you did not use roll over — they are never lost.
New to the whole thing?
There is a short built-in tutorial that walks through the turn loop, the dice, and the table tools. You can replay it any time from the table menu under “Help → Replay tutorial.”
