Your character

Forging a character

You can claim a ready-made character from the world’s cast, or forge your own. Either way a character is a name, a Calling, an Ancestry, and the six stats — the Narrator handles the numbers for you as you play.

Calling and Ancestry

  • Calling — what your character does and is known for: a sworn blade, a folk-magic worker, a scout, a healer. Each world offers its own list of Callings.
  • Ancestry — the kin your character comes from. Each world has its own peoples, with their own quirks and reputations.

The six stats, plainly

Every character is described by six stats. You do not do the maths — the Narrator does — but it helps to know what each one is for:

  • Brawn — how strong you are.
  • Finesse — how quick and precise you are.
  • Grit — how tough and stubborn you are.
  • Lore — how much you know from study.
  • Insight — how well you read people and rooms.
  • Presence — how much force of personality you have.

Growing

Everyone starts at Tier 1 — new to the world, but capable. Characters grow through what happens in the story, not by grinding points. What you do, and what it costs you, is what moves you up.
